Two spectacular long-range strikes from midfielder Luke Young settled the battle of the bottom two as Cheltenham Town beat Newport County 2-0. The visitors arrived 23rd in League Two and the hosts 24th, but it was Steve Cotterill's side who left the contest in far better spirits.
The result climbed Cheltenham out of the relegation zone, while Newport replaced them in propping up the entire EFL. Cotterill remains unbeaten since taking charge, with this win making it seven points from nine across his three games.
Young Punishes Wright's Errors
Cheltenham broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. Newport goalkeeper Jordan Wright's hurried, poor clearance dropped straight to Young outside the box, and the 32-year-old produced a controlled volley into the bottom corner of an empty net.
