Liverpool battled past a spirited Barnsley side 4-1 at Anfield to book an FA Cup fourth-round tie with Brighton, but the scoreline flattered Arne Slot's team on a night when the League One visitors made them work for every inch.
Brilliant first-half strikes from Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong looked to have put the hosts in control, only for a calamitous moment from Szoboszlai to hand Barnsley a lifeline before late substitutes Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike combined to settle the contest.
Tykes Roar Out of the Blocks
Despite 57 places separating the sides in the league pyramid, Barnsley flew out of the blocks. With only 29 seconds on the clock, Davis Keillor-Dunn beat Joe Gomez to an Adam Phillips cross from the right and headed against the post.
