Colchester United piled more misery on struggling Newport County with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at the JobServe Community Stadium, a result that lifted the hosts to within four points of the League Two play-off places.
Kyreece Lisbie and Samson Tovide had the U's two goals to the good by the interval, before Micah Mbick added a third after the break. Sammy Braybrooke's spectacular long-range strike gave Newport a consolation, but Jack Payne completed the scoring deep into stoppage time.
Lisbie and Tovide Combine to Take Control
Colchester took the lead in the 22nd minute through Lisbie, who fired in at the far post from Tovide's cross after a well-worked move. The pair swapped roles in the 43rd minute as Tovide prodded home Lisbie's powerful cross at the far post to double the advantage before the break.
