Leyton Orient beat Walsall on penalties in League Cup third round

Leyton Orient beat Walsall 6-5 on penalties in round three of the League Cup after the tie finished goalless through 90 minutes.

Neither side broke through in normal time. Orient had the better of the underlying numbers, with 60% possession and 20 shots to Walsall's 13, five of them on target to Walsall's four, and eight corners to two. Walsall committed the more fouls, 18 to 14.

Isaac Hayden was booked for Orient in the 48th minute for time wasting. Tai Sodje was booked for Walsall two minutes later for a foul, and Isaac Moore picked up a second Walsall yellow deep into stoppage time.

Orient made a double change at half-time, sending on Joseph Olowu for Alfie Gilchrist and Isaac Hayden for Phillip Chinedu. Walsall answered on 56 minutes, bringing on Courtney Clarke and Aaron Pressley for Albert Adomah and Andy Dallas.
