Leeds sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach

· Transfer News

Leeds United have completed the signing of the Switzerland international defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, in a deal worth an initial £6.8m with a further £1.7m in add-ons, taking the total package to £8.5m.

The 29-year-old reunites with Whites manager Daniel Farke, who was in charge of Monchengladbach for the 2022-23 season. Elvedi spent 11 years at the Bundesliga club, making 364 appearances before the move.

He has earned 73 caps for Switzerland and played every minute of their run to the quarter-finals at this summer's World Cup.

Asked about the deal after a pre-season win over Augsburg earlier this month, Farke said: "I've been working in football long enough to know everything is only final once the medical checks are completed and all the paperwork is signed. We've seen situations like this before." He added: "So I only speak about new players once they have been officially announced and everything is settled. But I don't want to lie, and we expect something to happen in the next 48 hours."
