Late Moore strike sends Wrexham past Preston and into round three

— Match Report

Kieffer Moore's stoppage-time prod gave Wrexham a dramatic 3-2 win at Deepdale and booked their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 1981-82. The substitute pounced when Jack Walton fumbled Ryan Barnett's cross in the second minute of added time.

Lewis Dobbin and Liam Lindsay had twice put Preston in front, either side of Ryan Hardie's audacious lobbed equaliser, before Harry Ashfield's deflected effort levelled the tie just before the hour and set up the late twist.

Wholesale changes and a frenetic opening

Both managers rang the changes after their weekend league outings. Paul Heckingbottom kept only Andrew Hughes, Pol Valentin and Alfie Devine from the side that beat Ipswich, while Phil Parkinson named an entirely different XI from Saturday's 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, handing Callum Doyle a first start since joining from Manchester City.
