Macaulay Langstaff came off the bench to fire Millwall to a 2-1 victory at Norwich City, securing the Lions’ first win at Carrow Road since 1968 and opening their Championship campaign in style. The substitute needed only a few minutes to make his mark, sliding a composed finish under Vladan Kovacevic seven minutes from time to settle a keenly contested encounter that had been finely balanced at 1-1.
Earlier, Camiel Neghli’s crisp strike shortly after the interval had been quickly cancelled out by Josh Sargent’s equaliser, the Norwich captain charging down Steven Benda’s clearance to level. Norwich impressed in spells on Liam Manning’s first competitive game in charge of his boyhood club, but Millwall’s stronger second-half display and clinical finishing ultimately justified the points and erased a long-standing Carrow Road hoodoo.
Norwich’s bright start lacks the cutting edge to hurt Millwall
In warm, sun-drenched conditions, Norwich began with the energy and purpose you would expect from a side under a new head coach. With five players making their competitive debuts, Manning’s team were quickly on the front foot, pinning Millwall back and playing most of the opening 25 minutes in the visitors’ half. New signing Mirko Topic was heavily involved, seeing an early snapshot diverted behind by a full-stretch block from Japhet Tanganga before steering another effort just wide around the half-hour mark.
