Kevin Lamour, Fifa's chief operating officer, has been sacked. Three weeks ago he said publicly that Fifa's administration had been "deceived" over Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, that the scheme was "the project of one person", and that his colleagues "deserve better than contempt and intimidation". He also said what he thought it would cost him.

"If that means I lose my job, then so be it," he said at the time. "I will understand and respect that decision. At least I'll sleep well tonight."

The plan was shelved within hours of him speaking on 31 July. On the same day one of Infantino's senior advisers, Carlos Cordeiro, resigned in protest. On 17 August, Lamour was gone.
