Ladefoged rescues Lincoln: record signing's late equaliser earns a point against Southampton

· Match Report

Mikkel Ladefoged came off the bench to score his first goal for Lincoln City in the 86th minute, earning a 1-1 draw with Southampton after Welington's long-range strike had put the visitors in front just before half-time.

The Danish striker, the club's record signing, nodded in a Reeco Hackett cross at the back post in only his second appearance. It denied Southampton a first away win in the Championship this season, and left Lincoln still searching for a first home win in the second tier since 1961.

Lincoln Dominate the Early Exchanges

Lincoln were on the attack from the opening seconds. A long kick-off sent the ball high into the Southampton area and Andrei Coubis, handed his first league start, saw a shot blocked inside 10 seconds, with Rob Street threatening at the back post moments later. Freddie Draper dragged an effort wide from distance, and goalkeeper Daniel Peretz got down to keep out a low Street shot.
