LA Galaxy have signed Sergi Roberto on a two-year contract with the option of a third season, the MLS club have confirmed. The former Barcelona and Spain midfielder joins after two seasons at Como, where he played under the Italian club's manager, Cesc Fabregas.
Roberto spent 18 years at boyhood club Barcelona, scoring 19 goals in 373 first-team appearances and captaining the side in the 2023-24 season. He won seven La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey trophies, six Spanish Super Cups, two Champions League titles, two Club World Cups and two UEFA Super Cups, and scored in the 2017 comeback against Paris Saint-Germain that remains one of the competition's most remembered results. He has 11 caps for Spain. At Como, he and fellow Champions League winner Álvaro Morata became senior figures used as regular substitutes as Fabregas rotated a squad built to compete near the top of Serie A.
LA Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said Roberto brings "a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence, and championship experience that few players have." He added: "He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi's character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy."
In Los Angeles, Roberto reunites with his former Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig, who has missed a second consecutive season because of complications from the ACL injury he suffered during the Galaxy's run to the 2024 MLS Cup. The signing comes in the same week the Galaxy completed a loan move for the Mexico forward Hirving "Chucky" Lozano from San Diego FC, as the club looks to rebuild a squad that missed the playoffs entirely in 2025.
