Kelman and Fevrier stunners secure Charlton safety as Hull's play-off hopes fade

· Match Report

Charlton Athletic secured Championship survival thanks to stunning strikes from Charlie Kelman and Jayden Fevrier as they beat Hull City 2-1 at The Valley, ending a seven-game winless run and mathematically confirming their safety.

John Egan had headed the Tigers level at the end of the first half, but a much-improved Hull side could not find a second equaliser after Fevrier's mazy solo goal restored the Addicks' lead. The result, coupled with West Bromwich Albion's draw with Ipswich Town, confirmed Oxford United's relegation to League One, while Hull missed the chance to climb back into the play-off spots.

A sublime opener sets the tone

The Addicks made a fast start and were good value for their lead when they opened the scoring in the 20th minute through a sublime strike by Kelman. The forward raced on to Conor Coady's through ball, cut inside Semi Ajayi and found the top-right corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area for his seventh goal of the campaign.
