Kalimuendo and Yates inspire Forest to nostalgic 3-0 win over Malmö

— Match Report

Nottingham Forest marked a reunion with Malmö 46 years in the making by cruising to a 3-0 Europa League victory at the City Ground, with Ryan Yates, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Nikola Milenkovic all on target. It was a third straight win in all competitions for Sean Dyche's side and a result that significantly boosted their hopes of qualifying for the knockout phase.

The night dripped in nostalgia, a rerun in name of the 1979 European Cup final won 1-0 in Munich by Brian Clough's side. Forest made a fuss of the heroes of that night, with Frank Clark, Colin Barrett and company given a rousing reception alongside 13 members of the Swedish club's squad from 1979, while a superb tifo in the Trent End recalled John Robertson's cross and Trevor Francis's stooping header.

A Reunion 46 Years in the Making

Forest leant into the history. The 1979 heroes were given the red-carpet treatment 15 minutes before kick-off, and a giant banner reading "30th May 1979, John Robertson crossed it in from the left" was unfurled, completed by the words "And there's Francis" as the players emerged. A second tifo depicted Clough on the Olympiastadion bench beside his assistant Peter Taylor.
