Millwall came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in a result that swung the promotion race and gave the afternoon an obvious central character. Dael Fry's first-half header capped an energetic opening from the hosts, but former Boro striker Josh Coburn struck twice after the break to complete a turnaround that sent the Lions above Middlesbrough and into the automatic promotion spots.
For long stretches of the first half, Middlesbrough were sharper and more threatening, with Callum Brittain and Alan Browne heavily involved in the early pressure. Yet Alex Neil's side emerged with greater control after the interval, found an equaliser through Coburn in the 58th minute, and then held their nerve through a frantic closing spell before the same player applied the decisive finish late on.
Middlesbrough's early energy forces Millwall back
The game opened with Middlesbrough on the front foot. Brittain drilled a low pass across the area to Tommy Conway, whose effort was deflected behind by Tristan Crama, and Browne then nodded over from the resulting corner as Millwall were asked questions almost immediately.
