Hull City produced a ruthless away performance to beat Millwall 3-1 at The Den, with Kyle Joseph striking twice inside the opening quarter of an hour before Oli McBurnie settled a frenetic finale. Aidomo Emakhu halved the deficit for the hosts after Femi Azeez had been sent off, but McBurnie's late header finally killed off hopes of a dramatic Millwall comeback.
The result moves Sergej Jakirovic's side into the Championship play-off places, up to sixth and back above Stoke, just a point behind their fourth-placed opponents. For Millwall it was a first defeat in five league games and a bruising afternoon in which an electrifying start, a contentious dismissal and a spirited fightback ultimately yielded nothing.
Both managers pointed to key turning points. Jakirovic hailed his team's transitions, their control of set-pieces and a "very, very good" collective display, even if he was unhappy at conceding after going a man up. Alex Neil, meanwhile, railed against a crucial sending-off decision he felt should have gone in his side's favour and argued that, even after Azeez's red card, Millwall showed enough threat to believe they could have taken something from the game.
