Joao Pedro has signed a new contract with Chelsea, extending his stay at Stamford Bridge to 2032 with the option of two further years, a year after he joined from Brighton for a fee in the region of £60m.
Chelsea state contract lengths inclusive of any club option, so the new terms are being described as running to 2034. His previous deal was announced in the same way, to 2033, despite its base term also ending in 2032 with only a single option year attached.
The extension is on improved terms and follows the approach Chelsea have taken with other players in form, moving them up through the club's wage bands rather than simply lengthening a contract, as they did with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. It also guards against reported interest in the 24-year-old from Barcelona.
The move recognises the impact Joao Pedro made in his first season in England, in which he scored 15 Premier League goals without taking a penalty in 35 appearances, having joined from Brighton last summer.
