Joao Pedro double sinks Napoli as Chelsea storm into Champions League last 16

— Match Report

Two second-half goals from Joao Pedro turned the night on its head at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as Chelsea came from behind to beat Napoli 3-2, finishing sixth in the league phase and knocking the Italian champions out of the Champions League.

Enzo Fernandez had given the visitors a 19th-minute lead from the penalty spot, but Antonio Vergara and Rasmus Hojlund struck before the break to put Napoli in front. Cole Palmer, introduced at half-time after recovering from a thigh problem, set up both of Joao Pedro's goals to send Chelsea through and condemn Napoli to a chastening early exit.

James free-kick hands Chelsea an early lead

Chelsea began strongly. In the 18th minute captain Reece James whipped a free-kick into the Napoli area and struck the hand of Juan Jesus. Despite the home protests, the penalty was awarded and Enzo Fernandez drilled his spot-kick powerfully into the bottom corner.
