Isidor atones for a post miss: Sunderland beat Fulham for a first win of the season

· Match Report

Wilson Isidor scored in the 74th minute to give Sunderland a 1-0 win over Fulham at the Stadium of Light, their first victory of the season, only minutes after he had struck the post with the goal gaping.

The substitute turned in a low cross from fellow replacement Habib Diarra after Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno failed to cut it out. It was Sunderland's first win over Fulham since a 1-0 home victory in the Championship in December 2017.

Sunderland had lost 2-1 at Ipswich on the opening weekend, and Fulham, beaten 3-2 by Chelsea in their opener, have now lost both league games under Álvaro Arbeloa. "We need to improve many things, for sure, especially the energy and the attitude," the Fulham head coach said afterwards.
