Alexander Isak scored his first Liverpool goal and Hugo Ekitike struck a late winner before being sent off as Arne Slot's side edged past Southampton 2-1 to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round at Anfield.
Isak finished coolly on 43 minutes after Federico Chiesa intercepted a sloppy Alex McCarthy pass, only for Shea Charles to level on 76 minutes following a Wataru Endo error. Ekitike's 85th-minute strike from Chiesa's cut-back appeared to settle it, but the Frenchman removed his shirt in celebration and was shown a second yellow card, leaving Liverpool to see out the closing minutes with 10 men.
Slot's wholesale rotation
Slot made 11 changes to the side that won the Merseyside derby on Saturday, handing Giovanni Leoni a debut alongside Joe Gomez in central defence following the teenager's £26m summer move from Parma.
