Hull City stayed unbeaten in the Premier League with a goalless draw against Aston Villa at the MKM Stadium, a third successive clean sheet that left the promoted side with seven points from their first three games. Mohamed Belloumi hit the crossbar with a left-footed strike just after the hour, and Oli McBurnie and Mohamed-Ali Cho both had late chances to win it.
For Villa it was a first point of the season but a third consecutive game without a goal. Unai Emery, on his 200th match in charge, said after the match that his side "deserved more", while Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic admitted his team could have won it.
A Cagey First Half
Villa made the brighter start, and Nicolas Jackson headed Ian Maatsen's cross wide inside the opening two minutes. Hull were not cowed. Belloumi beat Ross Barkley twice, once with a nutmeg, and broke down the right before his low cross was cleared.
