Hull City have signed the Australia international defender Lucas Herrington from the Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids on a five-year deal, on the same day the newly promoted Premier League side completed the club-record signing of the Senegal defender Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano.
Herrington, 18, made two appearances for Australia at this summer's World Cup, starting in the Socceroos' final two matches, and missed a penalty as they were eliminated by Egypt in a last-32 shootout.
He moved to Colorado Rapids from the A-League club Brisbane Roar in January for what was reported as a club-record fee, and quickly established himself in Major League Soccer, being named to the league's team of the matchday after his home debut and leading MLS for touches by May.
"The opportunity to play in the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world, is a dream come true," Herrington said. "I've woken up at all hours in the morning in Australia to watch these games. To be a part of it is so special. I'm here to work hard and hopefully get a lot of games in the Premier League."
