Victory lifted Ryan Mason's side to 14th in the table, while Gary Rowett's Oxford remain just one place above the relegation zone after a third defeat in five league matches and a gap to the bottom three cut to three points.
Albion dominate but early wastefulness invites danger
Albion started on the front foot, pinning Oxford back and forcing a succession of early corners as the home side set a high tempo. Isaac Price came closest during that opening barrage, his glancing header from a Mikey Johnston corner beating goalkeeper Jamie Cumming only for Ciaron Brown to nod the ball away from near the line.
