Erling Haaland became the quickest player to score 50 Champions League goals as Manchester City opened their European campaign with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Napoli at the Etihad Stadium.
The Norwegian struck the milestone goal in just his 49th appearance in the competition, 13 games fewer than previous record holder Ruud van Nistelrooy, while Jeremy Doku added a second to settle a contest that had been transformed by a first-half red card for Napoli captain Giovanni di Lorenzo.
De Bruyne's Brief Homecoming
The night had been billed around Kevin de Bruyne's emotional return to City following his summer departure after a distinguished decade at the club. Home supporters offered a warm welcome with 'King Kev' banners and applause for the Belgium international.
