Guglielmo Vicario joins Juventus on loan from Tottenham

· Transfer News

Guglielmo Vicario has joined Juventus on a season-long loan from Tottenham, the two clubs have announced. The deal includes a non-mandatory option for Juventus to sign the goalkeeper permanently for a fee understood to be around £8.6m ($12m).

The move ends Vicario's three-year spell at Tottenham, where he made 117 appearances after joining from Empoli in 2023 and was part of the side that won the Europa League in 2025, ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy. He lost his place in Roberto De Zerbi's side to Antonin Kinsky following the Italian's appointment as head coach in April, when Spurs were fighting Premier League relegation. Kinsky had been hauled off after 17 minutes of a Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid under De Zerbi's predecessor, Igor Tudor, but recovered to make several important saves as Tottenham secured survival. An injury then kept Vicario out for the final seven games of the season, and he has not played for the club since.

De Zerbi has since confirmed Kinsky as his first-choice goalkeeper and handed him a new contract, saying he was 'outstanding over the final seven games of the season' and had 'earned this new contract' through his performances and professionalism. Martin Dubravka joined from Burnley on a free transfer this summer to serve as back-up, leaving no route back into the side for Vicario.

Juventus turned to Vicario after their pursuit of Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez collapsed, with Villa instead closing in on Parma's Zion Suzuki. The departure is the latest in a wholesale rebuild of Tottenham's squad this summer, which has also seen Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Radu Dragusin, Yves Bissouma, Luka Vuskovic, Will Lankshear and Manor Solomon leave, while Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke arrived for a combined £237m and Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi signed as free agents.
