Grimsby Town have signed the forward Sonny Finch from National League North side South Shields on a three-year contract, for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old came through the academy at Middlesbrough, for whom he played once, and had a loan spell at MK Dons during the 2024-25 season. He moved to South Shields on loan in January and turned the deal permanent in March, scoring eight goals in 26 league games to earn a return to League Two.
"Sonny is a player we've been aware of and watched closely," Grimsby head coach David Artell told the club website. "He's got a really good profile for us and, importantly, he still has plenty of room to develop."
Finch is the latest arrival in a busy rebuild at Blundell Park, following the summer signings of the forward Iwan Morgan from Brentford, the striker Andy Cook on a free transfer from Bradford City and the goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright on loan from Hull City. Artell's side finished seventh in League Two last season before losing to Salford City in the play-off semi-finals.
