Godo strike sends Aberdeen out as Strasbourg survive Pittodrie scare

— Match Report

Aberdeen were eliminated from the Conference League with a game to spare despite a spirited display in a 1-0 home defeat to leaders Strasbourg at Pittodrie. Martial Godo's first-half strike against the run of play was enough to settle a contest that the Dons, for long stretches, looked the more likely to win.

Knowing only victories against the Ligue 1 side and Sparta Prague next week would give them any chance of remaining in Europe after Christmas, Jimmy Thelin's side started brightly, but their profligacy proved costly against a side who have now collected 13 points from a possible 15.

Fast Start Punctured by VAR

Aberdeen made a fast start, their high press unsettling the visitors' defence to earn two corners inside the opening 90 seconds. Stuart Armstrong was heavily involved in much of the Dons' best work, intercepting a loose ball after 10 minutes to feed Marko Lazetic, whose shot was blocked. From the resulting corner, Nicky Devlin could only flick wide at the far post.
