Nottingham Forest recovered from a flat first half and a stoppage-time setback to beat Burnley 4-1 at the City Ground, with Morgan Gibbs-White producing a brilliant second-half hat-trick in the space of 15 minutes. Zian Flemming had put Burnley ahead just before the interval, but Forest's captain transformed the contest after the break and Igor Jesus added a stoppage-time fourth.
The result moved Forest five points clear of the relegation places with five games left and kept the good feeling flowing after the midweek win over Porto that secured a place in the Europa League semi-finals. For Burnley, who had defended with discipline and struck at the ideal moment in the first half, the collapse left them still 12 points from safety and much closer to an immediate return to the Championship.
A quiet opening carried an emotional undertone
There was a poignant mood before kick-off as Forest marked the loss of Elliot Anderson's mother, Helen. Anderson, who had missed Thursday's European game after her passing, laid flowers and his No 8 shirt bearing the word mum in the centre circle before a minute's applause. It gave the afternoon an emotional frame long before the football found any real rhythm.
