Oldham Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to six matches with a comfortable 3-1 win at Prenton Park, with goals from Mike Fondop, Calum Kavanagh and Jack Stevens condemning managerless Tranmere Rovers to a fifth consecutive defeat.
The result was an 11th loss in 12 for the hosts, who now sit just seven points clear of the League Two relegation zone, while Micky Mellon's Latics continued to climb in form.
Fondop's Audacious Opener Sets the Tone
Oldham took the lead after 20 minutes when Fondop latched onto a lofted through-ball from Manny Monthe and sensationally looped his finish over the stranded Joe Murphy and into the top-left corner.
