Fernandes' brace and second-half surge lift Manchester United past Wolves
On a night when the mood at Molineux was as volatile as Wolves' defending, Manchester United emerged with a 4-1 win that pushed them up to sixth in the Premier League and left the home side rooted to the bottom of the table. Bruno Fernandes scored twice, including an 82nd-minute penalty, with Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount also on target as United turned a briefly anxious contest into their biggest victory of the season.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde had briefly altered the script, cancelling out Fernandes' opener in first-half stoppage time to end Wolves' 540-minute wait for a league goal and deliver Rob Edwards his first strike in charge. But a forceful Luke Shaw tackle on Bellegarde early in the second half sparked the counter-attack from which Mbeumo restored United's lead, and Mount's volley and Fernandes' late spot-kick ensured the visitors' dominance on the balance of play was finally reflected in the scoreline.
