Wolverhampton Wanderers ended a long wait for an away league win, beating Preston North End 3-1 at Deepdale on Saturday for their first success on the road in the league in 16 months.
Fer López set the tone inside seven minutes, spinning away from his marker on the halfway line and driving forward unchallenged before finishing with a left-footed strike of real quality. Wolves were the sharper side throughout, and López in particular proved too much for Preston to handle across the afternoon.
Adam Armstrong doubled the lead in the 70th minute, arriving in space moments after coming off the bench to turn in Raúl Jiménez's return pass. López completed the win in the 81st, sweeping in his second goal of the afternoon and Wolves' third of the match. Jordan Thompson's goal in the 90th minute was no more than a consolation for the home side.
Daniel Iversen kept Preston in the contest longer than the scoreline alone suggests, saving repeatedly to deny further Wolves chances. The visitors, backed by close to 6,000 travelling supporters, finished with 54% of possession and five shots on target to Preston's two, with Preston also picking up four bookings to Wolves' one.
