Abdul Fatawu's extraordinary goal from inside his own half illuminated the King Power Stadium as Leicester City beat high-flying Ipswich Town 3-1, easing the pressure on Marti Cifuentes and tightening the Championship play-off race. Bobby De Cordova-Reid's long-range opener and Jordan Ayew's close-range finish put the Foxes 3-0 up before substitute Jens Cajuste replied for the visitors.
Leicester, who had won just four of their previous 16 league games and only once at home since the end of August, delivered one of their most convincing displays of the season against an in-form Ipswich side who had lost only once in their past 10 league matches. Victory lifts the Foxes up to eighth, within three points of the play-off places and of fifth-placed Ipswich, who remain in the top six with a one-point cushion over the chasing pack but are now winless in three games on the road.
De Cordova-Reid's early rocket sets the tone
Leicester made the dream start, taking the lead after just eight minutes with a strike of real quality from De Cordova-Reid. After Marcelino Nunez was dispossessed as Ipswich tried to build, Luke Thomas stretched to slide the ball into the forward's path and De Cordova-Reid unleashed a fierce drive from around 25 to 30 yards that arrowed into the bottom right corner of Christian Walton's goal for his third strike in as many matches.
