Eze opens Arsenal account as Gunners edge spirited Port Vale to reach Carabao Cup fourth round

— Match Report

Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta's side beat League One Port Vale 2-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup, setting up a fourth-round home tie with Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.

The £60m summer signing struck in the eighth minute and substitute Leandro Trossard added a late second, but the Premier League side were made to work for their place in the next round by a Port Vale team roared on by their biggest Vale Park crowd this century, 16,326.

Eze breaks his duck early

Before the smoke from the pre-match pyrotechnics had settled, Arsenal were ahead. Gabriel Martinelli picked out Eze in the middle of the box, aided by a clever Myles Lewis-Skelly dummy, and the former Crystal Palace playmaker calmly slotted the ball beyond Joe Gauci for his first goal in his sixth appearance for the club.
