Exeter 0-0 Tranmere: Ince twice off target as Male denies the hosts at St James Park

· Match Report

Exeter City and Tranmere Rovers shared a goalless draw at St James Park on 19 September, a League Two afternoon short of clear chances at both ends. The point left Exeter without a goal in a third successive league game, and the hosts dropped to 20th in the table.

Tom Ince had the best of what there was for Tranmere and failed to hit the target with either of his two clearest openings. At the other end Josh Gordon and Ed James were each denied by Harrison Male, who made three saves by Opta's count to Jack Bycroft's one.

Ince Twice Off Target for Tranmere

Tranmere made the first real threat, Ince dragging a shot wide from 25 yards. Exeter answered when Reece Cole delivered a free-kick that Gordon met well, only for Male to keep it out with a one-handed save. A mistake in the home defence later put Ince through, and Bycroft made himself big to turn the chance away.
