Sindre Walle Egeli struck deep into stoppage time to earn Ipswich Town a dramatic 1-1 draw and deny Blackburn Rovers a much-needed victory in the replay of their abandoned Championship fixture. The teenager swept home his first goal for the Tractor Boys in the 94th minute, cancelling out Andri Gudjohnsen's late opener and ensuring the points were shared on a tense night.
Blackburn, who had also been leading when the original game was halted in September, looked to have secured only their second home win of the season when Gudjohnsen continued his prolific run with a close-range finish. But a contest that was scrappy for long stretches and low on quality exploded into life at the end, leaving Rovers furious at both the outcome and a series of refereeing decisions, while Ipswich departed relieved to have escaped with a point from one of their poorest displays of the campaign.
Replay Resentment and a Spiky, Stop-Start First Half
This was no ordinary mid-season league fixture. The original meeting on 20 September had been abandoned after 79 minutes with Blackburn 1-0 up thanks to a Todd Cantwell penalty and Ipswich reduced to 10 men following Jacob Greaves' red card, only for a waterlogged pitch to force the game to be replayed in full. Tractor Boys boss Kieran McKenna welcomed the EFL's ruling, but Rovers head coach Valerien Ismael branded it 'a disgrace', and his players took to the pitch clearly fired-up by what they saw as an injustice.
