Max Dowman scored twice on his first appearance of the season as Arsenal beat Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round. The 16-year-old scored in the sixth minute and again in the 46th, with Noni Madueke (15th) and Mikel Merino (57th) completing Arsenal's scoring before Anis Mehmeti (61st) and Chuba Akpom (90th) pulled two back for the hosts.
Mikel Arteta's side made nine changes from their win at Sunderland on Saturday and still extended their unbeaten start to the season to a sixth win in six games. Dowman had spent the weekend playing for the under-21s and had been an unused substitute in four first-team games this term before he was handed a start.
Dowman Dances Past Kipre
The opener came from a turnover in midfield. Dowman won the ball, played a one-two with Eberechi Eze and ran at Cedric Kipre, going past the Ipswich defender with a shimmy before wrong-footing Walton in goal with a finish into the corner. Viktor Gyokeres, who started up front, had six touches in the first half.
