Doncaster Rovers have added the Aston Villa forward Tommi O'Reilly on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old arrives after previous loan spells at Shrewsbury Town, MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra, the last of which kept him at the club for the whole of the 2025-26 campaign, an ever-present in League Two.
O'Reilly made 46 league appearances for Crewe in 2025-26 and finished the campaign with 11 assists, form that persuaded Villa not to trigger a release clause in his loan agreement when it fell due in January. Crewe manager Lee Bell said in May there was "no chance" of re-signing him permanently. "If one of them could come back to this club, I'd snap your hand off, but there's not a chance," he said. "I'd be very surprised to see them playing in League Two ever again, not until they get about 35 and they're winding down."
Doncaster sit 20th in League One after two games without a win this season, having released Billy Sharp and six others in the summer. Manager Grant McCann's attacking options were already thin before a ball was kicked, with doubts over the fitness of forward Frankie Okoronkwo raising early concerns about depth up front.
"I'm a creative player and I like to get on the ball and work hard for the team. I want to beat my man and try scoring and assisting too. I just want to help the team," O'Reilly said.
