Djed Spence has completed a move to Inter Milan, signing a five-year deal after Tottenham and the Serie A club agreed a fee understood to be around £30m. It is understood that the deal includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause. The England full-back becomes Inter's replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who left for Real Madrid earlier this summer, and the second England international to join Inter this window after John Stones's free transfer following the expiry of his Manchester City contract.
Spence had grown short on certainty of regular football at Tottenham, with Pedro Porro established as the club's first-choice right-back and Andy Robertson, Destiny Udogie, Souza and Ben Davies all able to cover the left, despite having signed a new four-year contract at the club at the start of last season. Inter had been chasing a new right-wing-back all summer and turned to Spence after failing to agree a deal for Al Ittihad's Moussa Diaby. He was open to the move having enjoyed a six-month loan at Genoa in 2024, and travelled to Italy on Friday for a medical.
Tottenham signed Spence from Middlesbrough for an initial fee of around £12.5m in July 2022, and he leaves after 85 appearances that included the Europa League triumph. Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi had said in July that he wanted to convince Spence to stay at the club. He made his England debut in September 2025 and went on to play all eight of England's games at this summer's World Cup, starting the semi-final defeat by Argentina and the third-place play-off win over France.
Spence announced his own departure before the move was confirmed. "A special chapter comes to an end, It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao," he wrote on social media. "Thanks to all the staff members who've helped me along the way, the players who've become family & most importantly thank you to the fans. Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart. COYS !!!"
