Fulham brought the curtain down on their Premier League season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United at a sun-drenched Craven Cottage, an afternoon dominated as much by the uncertainty surrounding Marco Silva's future as by anything that happened on the pitch.
Goals from the unlikely figure of Issa Diop and substitute Tom Cairney lifted Fulham above Newcastle into 11th place, with Eddie Howe's side dropping to 12th — their worst league finish since Steve Bruce's last season in 2020/21.
Diop heads in on the rebound
In a first half short of clear-cut chances, Fulham found their breakthrough from a set piece. Kevin curled a superb free-kick that arched onto the crossbar, and Diop was quickest to react, nodding home the rebound while Newcastle's defenders were left static around him.
