Di Biase and Orsi settle Carabao Cup preliminary tie as Crawley win at York

· Match Report

Crawley Town beat York City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup preliminary round on Monday evening, Gianmarco Di Biase scoring in the 23rd minute and Danilo Orsi adding a penalty in the 85th.

The tie was York's first competitive match since their dramatic promotion from the National League and the first of Scott Lindsey's reign as their head coach. Lindsey, who was sacked by Crawley in March, took charge days after York parted with Stuart Maynard, and lost on his debut against his former club. Crawley, managed by Colin Kazim-Richards, go on to a first-round trip to Championship side Watford on Saturday.

Lindsey had taken Crawley up to League One just over two years ago, left and then returned, and lost his job in March after ten matches without a win. Kazim-Richards replaced him until the end of the season, secured Crawley's place with a point on the final day against Salford, and earned a new contract in May.
