Ermedin Demirovic scored the first hat-trick of this season's Champions League as Stuttgart beat Viking 3-1 on the Norwegian side's league-phase debut. All three goals came in the first half, in a spell of just over 12 minutes, and Stuttgart led 3-1 at the interval.
It was the first Champions League hat-trick by a Stuttgart player and the fifth-earliest in the competition's history. Zlatko Tripic's equaliser for the Norwegian champions was all Viking had to show from their first appearance in the league phase.
Three Goals Either Side of an Equaliser
Demirovic opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Angelo Stiller credited with the assist and Chris Führich with the pass before it. Viking did not wait long to respond: Tripic finished a counter-attack in the 21st minute, set up by Henrik Bjørdal.
