Martin Ødegaard scored in the 74th minute to give Arsenal a 1-0 win at Napoli in their Champions League opener on Wednesday, ending a night in which the visitors created chance after chance and finished almost none of them. His low shot from the edge of the area went in off the post at the end of a passing move that included a one-two with the substitute Christos Tzolis.
Arsenal had 26 shots to Napoli's five, eight of them on target to three, and 58% of the possession. It was their highest shot count in a single Champions League match on record, which runs back to 2003-04, and more than Napoli had faced in any Champions League game. Arsenal have now won 13 straight group-stage games in the Champions League.
Ødegaard has scored four goals in five games this season, having managed one in all competitions last year in an injury-hit campaign. Mikel Arteta said afterwards: "Last year, he missed so many games, so many injuries. He's got that edge, and he's got now different relationships, I mean, and that helps."
