Luke Cundle's first-half goal and a superb second-half display from goalkeeper Steven Benda earned Millwall a hard-fought 1–0 victory at Bramall Lane, deepening Sheffield United's early-season troubles and extending the Blades' wait for a first point of the campaign.
Ruben Selles' side, who amassed 90 points under Chris Wilder last season before losing in the play-off final, have opened this term with three league defeats and a cup exit to Birmingham City. Millwall wrestle control after United's early energy
Selles handed a debut to new loan signing Ben Godfrey at the heart of the Sheffield United defence and felt his team began on the front foot. He later argued that in the first 10 minutes United were on top, trying to create and be aggressive. Yet that early spell produced little in the way of clear chances and, as the half wore on, the home side started to lose their grip on midfield duels and defensive organisation.
