Coventry City came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at Sheffield United, extending their advantage at the top of the Championship and delivering a serious blow to the Blades’ play-off ambitions. In a pulsating contest at Bramall Lane, Harrison Burrows gave the hosts a deserved lead early in the second half, only for Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni to strike in quick succession and flip the night in Frank Lampard’s favour.
Chris Wilder’s side produced some of their best football of the season for long spells and will reflect on a succession of missed chances, contentious penalty calls and a result that feels harsh on the balance of their performance. Coventry, meanwhile, were far from their fluent best but showed the resilience and ruthlessness of leaders to grind out a third straight win and regain momentum in their pursuit of a first top-flight appearance in 25 years.
Blades Dominate Early but Missed Chances Prove Costly
Sheffield United flew out of the traps and could easily have been ahead inside the opening exchanges. Gus Hamer set the tone with a dangerous low cross that Carl Rushworth had to parry away, and from the resulting corner Andre Brooks saw a shot deflected narrowly wide. Burrows then tested the Coventry goalkeeper with a thumping effort that Rushworth held, underlining the home side’s early control.
