Coventry's 25-year wait ends: Dasilva strikes at Forest as VAR denies a late reply

· Match Report

Coventry City won a Premier League match for the first time in 25 years on Saturday, Jay Dasilva's 54th-minute goal earning a 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest and ending a start to the season of four defeats and no goals.

Forest thought they had found a late equaliser through substitute Igor Jesus, but referee Jarred Gillett was sent to the pitchside monitor by the video assistant referee and ruled that Jesus had fouled Caleb Yirenkyi before scoring. Forest had 24 shots to Coventry's 10, according to Opta, yet only three of them were on target, the same number as the visitors managed.

It was Coventry's first top-flight victory since a 1-0 home win over Sunderland in April 2001, and the final whistle brought an outpouring of emotion from the Coventry supporters.
