Championship leaders Coventry City came from behind to beat struggling Sheffield United 3-1 at the CBS Arena, restoring their momentum after Friday's defeat at Wrexham and moving four points clear at the top of the table.
Former Sky Blues defender Sam McCallum had given the visitors a first-half lead, but Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Bobby Thomas and joint-Championship top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante all struck after the interval to secure Coventry's ninth league win of the season. The result underlined the contrast between the sides' campaigns: Coventry, now five points ahead of third-placed Middlesbrough, have scored 39 league goals – more than any team in the top four divisions – while United remain third from bottom after an 11th defeat in 14 games.
McCallum Punishes Leaders in Lively First Half
Frank Lampard responded to the 3-1 loss at Wrexham by making five changes, restoring Thomas, Milan van Ewijk and Jay Dasilva to form a familiar back four and recalling Victor Torp in midfield after a calf injury. The leaders started on the front foot, Torp immediately testing Michael Cooper with a trademark free-kick that the Sheffield United goalkeeper beat away, before another Torp delivery caused further trouble, Josh Eccles latching onto a loose ball and drawing a firm save with a well-struck volley.
