Championship leaders Coventry City produced a stirring comeback from two goals down to beat 10-man West Bromwich Albion 3-2 in a breathless West Midlands derby played in teeming rain at the CBS Arena. Aune Heggebo’s first-half brace had the Baggies in command, but the Sky Blues hit back through Josh Eccles, Ellis Simms and Victor Torp to secure a third straight win and extend their advantage at the top.
In a chaotic, chance-laden contest that swung repeatedly before being decisively tilted by Jayson Molumby’s red card early in the second half, Coventry’s attacking depth and resilience ultimately told. Frank Lampard’s side, the division’s top scorers, made it 11 victories from 16 league games and nine wins in their last 10, while West Brom were left to reflect on a superb opening spell undone by indiscipline and an inability to withstand the leaders’ relentless pressure.
Heggebo Double Punishes Early Errors
Coventry began with the swagger of leaders, moving the ball confidently despite the slick surface, but it was West Brom who struck first with a goal that summed up their aggressive approach. After nine minutes Mikey Johnston robbed Jay Dasilva near the touchline, drove into space on the right and picked out Heggebo, who swept a composed first-time finish past Carl Rushworth.
