Play-off chasing Colchester United were left frustrated after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by relegation-threatened Crawley Town in a tepid affair that produced very few chances.
The result moved the U's up to 10th, three points outside the play-off places, while Crawley climbed to two points above the drop zone despite extending their winless run to eight games.
Chapman the busier of the goalkeepers
Colchester almost took a 14th-minute lead when Arthur Read dragged a low shot wide of the near post, and Crawley goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was soon called into action to save from both Rob Hunt and Samson Tovide.
