Josh Coburn's close-range header just before half-time gave Millwall a 1-0 victory over Derby County and extended the Lions' impressive sequence to seven wins in their last nine games. The result, achieved after a tense finale, lifts Alex Neil's side to within a point of second-placed Middlesbrough for 24 hours at least, while dealing a blow to Derby's play-off push.
Millwall enjoyed the better of the territorial battle for long spells and created the clearer chances around the interval, with Coburn also hitting a post before he scored and forcing another save soon after. But the hosts then had to ride their luck in a nervy closing spell as the Rams passed up a succession of opportunities, culminating in Patrick Agyemang striking a post deep into stoppage time to leave the home side hugely relieved at the final whistle.
Millwall's territory finally brings the breakthrough
Millwall's early grip on territory did not immediately translate into clear chances, and they were almost undone against the pattern of play after 15 minutes. Patrick Agyemang met Joe Ward's corner with a firm header that looked destined for the net, only for Femi Azeez to retreat to the goal-line and nod the ball clear in a crucial early intervention.
