Wrexham strengthened their grip on a Championship play-off place with a 2-0 victory over fellow Welsh side Swansea City at the Racecourse Ground. Nathan Broadhead fired the hosts in front midway through the first half before a late Liam Cullen own goal, diverted in from Callum Doyle's header, secured a result that tightened Wrexham's hold on the top six.
Although Swansea dominated possession for long periods and created a number of promising openings, they were repeatedly denied by Arthur Okonkwo and a resolute Wrexham defence. Phil Parkinson's men now enjoy a six-point cushion inside the play-off places over seventh-placed Southampton, while Swansea drop to 12th in the table, eight points adrift of the top six with eight games remaining.
Broadhead Strikes After Vipotnik Spurns Golden Chance
The visitors started brightly and should have taken an early lead. Within the first 40 seconds Goncalo Franco found space on the edge of the box but his low effort was too close to Okonkwo, who gathered comfortably. At the other end Wrexham offered an early warning when Broadhead met a cross with a firm header that Lawrence Vigouroux had to claw away during a lively opening spell.
