Hull City capitalised on a host of missed Norwich City chances to claim a 2-0 victory at Carrow Road, deepening the Canaries' crisis and amplifying calls for head coach Liam Manning to be sacked. Second-half strikes from Joe Gelhardt and substitute Darko Gyabi secured only Hull's second win in 53 years at this ground and punished a Norwich side who dominated long spells but again failed to score.
Norwich had arrived on the back of five successive league defeats and with only four home league goals to their name, yet they produced one of their brightest first halves of the season, creating a string of clear openings. But familiar failings in both boxes made it six straight Championship losses and seven consecutive home defeats in all competitions, leaving them second from bottom as Hull stretched their unbeaten run to six matches, taking 13 points from the last 15 available to bolster Sergej Jakirovic's unexpected promotion push and move, at least temporarily, into the play-off zone.
Norwich dominate, but goals again prove elusive
Norwich should have been ahead inside five minutes after Hull failed to clear their lines and Jovan Makama swept a low cross into the six-yard box, only for Josh Sargent to blaze over from no more than four yards with the goal gaping. Even the normally reliable Sargent's confidence appeared to have deserted him amid Norwich's recent collapse, and the miss set an ominous tone for the afternoon.
