Clarke header denies Charlton as Derby fight back for point

ยท Match Report

Matt Clarke's first goal of the season rescued Derby County as they drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic at Pride Park, the centre-back's late header cancelling out James Bree's superb first-half strike.

Charlton led from the 37th minute thanks to a flowing team move finished emphatically by Bree and looked on course for an impressive away win until Derby finally converted their second-half pressure into an equaliser with 11 minutes remaining, after which both sides had chances to snatch victory in a frenetic finale that ultimately left the points shared and the table largely unchanged.

Addicks' flowing move breaks the deadlock

Derby thought they had the perfect start inside the opening minute when Carlton Morris tumbled in the area under close attention from Macaulay Gillesphey, the Charlton defender appearing to have a handful of the striker's shirt, but strong appeals for a penalty were waved away by the referee.
